Investing

I've had two opportunities in the last week to serve with other outdoorsmen, one making a Brunswick stew with my hunt club, and the other cooking hot dogs for the Upward Football celebration with the Cool Spring Outdoor Ministry team. Both events opened doors to serve together and to talk about what is going on in each other's lives, something that does not normally transpire as our paths briefly cross on the water or in the woods. We fishermen and hunters can easily overlook the significance of these opportunities; I admit that I have sidelined more than one occasion where someone needed an open ear because I was preoccupied by big deer or fish on the brain!

Stepping out of my comfort zone to get to know others is difficult, but I am getting better through practice. Are you looking for opportunities to build bonds with and invest in the lives of those around you? - GE

"Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand" (paraphrase of Phillipians 2:4 from The Message).
