Elusive

As of Monday, I had heard from lots of frustrated folks who had not seen deer for over a week. I was right there with them. I had tried a variety of stand placements, calls, scents, rattling, you name it, all with the same result. Maybe because of the fluctuating weather. Or maybe because the moon is getting bigger and higher in the sky. Or maybe its the time right before the bucks begin running wild, when they seem to not move at all. I'm no wildlife biologist, so I certainly cannot tell you why. Nevertheless, the deer were downright elusive last week and even part of the week prior. Finding God or hearing from God can be quite similar.

Regardless of how we seek him, how we pray, what we read, what we do or even refrain from doing, sometimes it seems as if God is hiding from us, no where to be found when we are crying out for help. However, we must realize that this is just not compatible with God's nature. Jesus urged us to "ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7). Literally, He meant for us to keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking. Just as we continue to go after fish and game even after having unproductive days on the water and in the woods, and ultimately are successful, Jesus advises us to keep on looking for God, talking to God, crying out for God, and ultimately we will find Him, and discover the answers or guidance that we need. Let's aim to be as persistent in seeking after "Him" as we are in seeking after "him".

Ironically, persistence paid off for me last night. I saw two bucks, both of which were in high gear. Here we go, y'all, better get in the woods! - GE
