A Limited Perspective

There have been quite a few foggy mornings in our area recently, and I endured one of them during a pre-dawn drive on the way to waterfowl hunt. This was one of those extremely thick and dense fogs that you can barely see a few feet in front of the vehicle. I had to drive the majority of my hour long trip well below the speed limit, hoping and praying that I would not have any encounters with animals or other slow moving vehicles. Toward the end of my drive, the fog lessened greatly and by the time I had arrived at the duck hole, there was no fog around at all; things appeared perfectly clear and quite vivid compared to what I experienced earlier in my drive.

1 Corinthians 13:12 (NASB)
"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known."

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

As I navigated to my destination through those difficult driving conditions that morning, I was reminded how similar it is to the limited vision and perspective many of us have of what is going on around us each and every day, especially pertaining to God's plans and ways. I thought about how we can get so used to the conditions right around us that we forget that there is much more going on that we can't even begin to see or comprehend. And unless we slow down, get our bearings, and seek God's understanding and perspectives to what is going on around us, we can wander through the majority of our lives making short-sighted decisions and choices inside of the 'box' we form from this limited vision or perspective. In contrast, everything around me appeared to have a 'high definition' clarity as I reached my destination that morning. That made me recall God's promise that when we each reach our final destination, that is face to face with our Creator, how our eyes, hearts and minds will be opened to, be able to understand and feel infinitely more than we were ever able to  during our earthly lives.

Guys, are you reminded as you live out your days of how limited of a perspective you really have on all that is going on around you, both physically and spiritually? I encourage you to start each day by asking God to give you His eyes, His heart, and His mind. This will help you go through your day with a larger, eternal understanding of what is going on around you, and what God is wanting to do through you to impact the lives of others in your midst. - GE

Fog can form anytime when the difference between the air temperature and dew point is less than 4°F (2.5°C). Always plan to depart early in order to arrive at your destination on time when the chance of encountering fog exists. A global positioning system (GPS) in your vehicle can be a big help in making you aware of upcoming landmarks, twists and turns when driving in foggy conditions.

Glenn, thanks for checking out the blog and for your response. It is a reminder to me to not so quickly jump into my day but rather get things started the right way

I think Sam and I were in that same fog bank going surfing a few Saturdays ago - no matter whether our destination was the beach or to a duck blind or everyday, "unless we slow down, get our bearings, and seek God's understanding and perspectives to what is going on around us, we can wander through the majority of our lives making short-sighted decisions and choices due to limited vision or perspective." - Keep up the great work.
